Therapeutic Approaches.

Two hands reaching towards each other in the sky, with one hand above and one hand below, and clouds in the background.
  • Therapeutic approach that helps individuals understand and deal with their emotions by teaching:

    • acceptance;

    • mindfulness and how to stay present;

    • distress tolerance and emotion regulation;

    • interpersonal skills.

  • This therapeutic approach tackles the "life traps" or "stuck points" that we formed as children and adolescents, and which continue to affect our deep subconscious, fueling current behavioural and thinking patterns that negatively impact our lives. This intervention, is a long-term process that helps individuals form more adaptive ways of being that lead to more authentic living.

  • Therapeutic approach that helps individuals recognize:

    • thought patterns;

    • how their beliefs and attitudes influence their emotions and actions.

  • The person centered therapeutic philosophy preaches acceptance for the client’s feelings, no matter what, and offers unconditional positive regard.

    Attachment based therapeutic approaches work to strengthen and make secure the individual’s attachment style, by tackling that which the client either suppressed or overemphasized in early childhood relationships.

  • Influenced by the somatic experiencing modality, the client is encouraged to reconnect their body and mind through customized exercises.

    By focusing on the body first, one learns to modify the pathways that created problematic cycles as a response to stress.

  • This underlying philosophy views individuals as resourceful and resilient when faced with hardship.

    Clients are encouraged to rediscover and use their strengths to pull themselves out of adversity, as they have done in the past.

  • This approach is grounded in the understanding that trauma can impact an individual’s neurological, biological, psychological, and social development and functioning.

    At its core, an individual’s response to trauma is driven by survival, even if that response later becomes problematic.

    This approach seeks to empower individuals by acknowledging the impact of trauma.

Meet the therapist.

Hi, I am Raluca!

I am a Registered Psychotherapist and I work with individuals who struggle to connect with themselves and others, experience strong emotions that at times feel out of control and who would like to discover the self that they have been hiding under layers of protective masks.

Relationships and connections with others are an essential part of life. But what happens if our closest relationships cause us the most distress? What happens if we do not feel safe, emotionally nourished, and loved without condition in our relationships? What happens if in order to survive we cut the connection between our mind and body? The answer is feeling a complexity of emotions, some of which we may not be able to put into words. At times we feel numb, while at other times like our emotions are out of control. We may also experience anxiety and fear even when there is no true threat, and/or have such low mood that we think we will never feel joy again.

My approach

I look to connect with individuals where they are in that moment. I help by building on one’s existing strengths to add more productive coping skills to regulate their mind and body, increase their emotional capacity and become more effective communicators.

I use mindfulness and behavioural techniques, look for ways to reconnect the person with their body, and teach distress tolerance and emotional regulation skills, as well as better ways to relate to others. As well, for deeper exploration and resolution of the origin of those struggles and stuck points, I use techniques from Schema Therapy.

  • The snowdrop is one of the first flowers to bloom after the winter. It signals the beginning of spring, rebirth, and new opportunities. This resilient flower is a symbol of the belief that humans are similarly capable of inner strength.

  • Sessions are designed in collaboration with you, according to your needs and the specifics of your treatment plan. Most often, we collaborate on a general therapeutic goal that sets the intention for each session. At the same time, we will create more specific mini-goals, meant to assist in achieving that general (usually larger) goal.

  • The amount of sessions needed will be individually determined. Generally, working together weekly or bi-weekly for at least 8 sessions, will lead to learning certain behavioural skills that if implemented consistently will result in life improvements. At the same time, in our opinion, lasting, meaningful change comes from attending sessions regularly for at least 6 months.

  • Raluca is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Most insurance companies cover Registered Psychotherapists, however it is best to check with your insurance company to ensure sessions will be covered.

    We provide a digital receipt at the end of each session, which can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement. We do not offer direct-billing at this time.

  • The relationship between the client and the therapist has been found to be the strongest indicator of positive therapeutic results. Sometimes, to form a strong therapeutic relationship takes a few sessions, however a general impression can be made quicker than that. Thus, we provide the opportunity for a free video meet-and-greet where you can gather a first impression.

  • Raluca has experience working with members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, BIPOC, and various cultural and religious backgrounds. On principle, our goal is for our sessions to be a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel welcomed.

  • There are a limited number of spots at a reduced rate, available to those who have financial difficulties.

  • We accept all major credit cards. Etransfers will be considered in special circumstances.

    We usually ask for a credit card on file, which makes payment at the end of the session a simple click that then generates a receipt that is emailed to you.

    We do not offer direct-billing at this time.
